Does Wagyu Beef Have Fat?

Why is Wagyu so fatty?

This type of fat can be found inside the muscle and is what gives Wagyu beef its marble appearance. So why is Wagyu beef like this when other types of beef aren’t? Well, that is all down to the genetics of the cows. 

Wagyu beef comes from a specific breed of cow which has different genetics to the cows from which ordinary beef is sourced. These cows have a higher amount of fat in their body than regular cows which is why Wagyu beef is marbled and regular beef is less so.

So, in short, Wagyu beef is so fatty because Wagyu cattle are genetically predisposed to have higher fat levels in their body.

How many calories are in Wagyu steak?

If your usual order is a 6oz Wagyu steak, then you should expect that the meat in this meal will equate to about 410 calories. Whereas if you prefer a 8oz Wagyu steak, this will be about 538 calories.

This is measured from the meat when it is raw, and doesn’t take into account any additional ingredients being added to the meat prior to serving.

This might seem high, but generally speaking most steaks will contain a similar amount of calories when cut to these weights. As you can see, if you have a steak as one of your meals, this will take up a big chunk of your calories for that day.

This is one of the main reasons why steak is viewed as a treat, rather than an everyday meal. But, even though steak is high in calories, it is actually a very healthy meal as long as you do not eat it all the time. 

Is A5 Wagyu healthy?

Is Wagyu beef good for weight loss?

Yes, Wagyu beef is good for weight loss. This isn’t necessarily because it is low in calories, it is more so because it is a great alternative to meat that is high in “bad fat” and calories.

Wagyu beef has been scientifically proven to be a healthier alternative to regular beef because it contains monounsaturated fatty acids rather than saturated fats. So if you are considering dieting, it is a good idea to add Wagyu beef to your diet. 

Not only is it good for weight loss, but Wagyu beef is also good for making you healthier. As well as monounsaturated fats, Wagyu beef also contains polyunsaturated fats including something called CLA.

CLA stands for Conjugated Linoleic Acid, and it has been linked not only to weight loss, but also maintaining a healthy weight. It can sometimes be easy to lose weight by dieting, but difficult to maintain that weight once you have lost it.

This is why Wagyu beef is great because it will not only help you lose weight, but also stop you putting any on once you reach your goal. 

Is Wagyu beef high in protein?

Yes, Wagyu beef is relatively high in protein. To put it into context, a 6oz Wagyu steak contains 32.7g of protein, and 30.6g of fat. Wagyu is well-known for being a fatty meat, so the fact that it contains more protein than fat does suggest that it is high in protein.

The average (untrained) woman should aim to eat about 45g of protein a day, and the average (untrained) man 55g. So, if you were to eat a 6oz Wagyu beef steak as one of your meals this would make up a lot of your daily intake. 

In fact, if you are a woman, it would make up over 70% of your required protein for that day. This is another reason why Wagyu beef has always been seen as a healthy option.

So there’s no denying that Wagyu beef is high in protein, which is why it is such a great choice if you are on a health kick. 

Can you buy Wagyu fat?

No, in the USA it is impossible to purchase Wagyu fat. Wagyu fat is incredibly healthy and tasty, but in the USA you cannot buy it unless you buy the meat that is attached to it as well. In Japan, you can buy Wagyu fat on its own, and it usually comes in jars.

But unfortunately it is not available in the USA. 

Even though you cannot buy Wagyu fat, you can collect fat from Wagyu yourself and keep it in a jar to use at another time.
